Ahead of GE14, PM hands out RM2,000 each to PNB staff

With the general election set to occur soon, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today announced a one-off cash payment to Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) staff.
At PNB's 40th anniversary celebrations at the investment organisation's headquarters in the capital today, Najib noted how he had also approved a high bonus rate for its staff last year.
"But it's not easy and it's not every day that we get to mention it's the 40th year.
"So to celebrate the 40th year anniversary, I would like to announce a special incentive of RM2,000 for every PNB staff," said Najib to loud cheers and applause from some 1,000 PNB staff present.
Najib said the cash payment will be disbursed in May.
Coincidentally, the 14th general election is also expected to be held in May.
Meanwhile, Najib in his speech also cautioned those present against believing in fake news.
"Especially now that we are going into what we call the silly season.
"Many strange things will appear in the next one to two months until the Hari Raya we've been waiting for," said Najib in reference to the general election.
Such "strange stories" include claims that Malaysia was a bankrupt and failed state, he said.
Citing the country's A rating and economic growth at 5.9 percent, Najib said it was impossible for Malaysia to be a bankrupt nation.
"This is another fake news that we must reject," he added.
The fake news law is currently being formulated by a special committee led by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman Said.
The government on Tuesday met with internet giants including Facebook and Google to obtain feedback on its proposed fake news law. -Mkini
