Bersatu meets ROS deadline, says no reason to defer Harapan registration now

GE14 | Bersatu filed all related documents requested by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) on Thursday, thereby meeting a 30-day deadline set by the latter.
The Pakatan Harapan component party maintained that the deadline should have been April 9, which is the date it received the letter, and not March 29.
ROS had sent a notice dated Feb 28 to Bersatu, requesting the party to furnish its meeting minutes and financial documents within 30 days from that date or face the risk of de-registration.
The notice was issued under Section 14(2) of the Societies Act 1966.
The additional documents were hand-delivered by Bersatu organising secretary Capt (Rtd) Muhamad Suhaimi Yahya on Thursday afternoon (photo).
"We have therefore complied with what the ROS required," he said.
A lawyer familiar with the Bersatu filing, who wanted to remain anonymous, said the party has therefore fully complied with the ROS’ requirements and can legitimately expect to contest in the 14th general election.
In the accompanying letter dated March 30, Bersatu expressed its hopes that the ROS will be fair and give a reply within two days of the submission.
The letter was signed by Bersatu secretary-general Shaharuddin Md Salleh and sighted by Malaysiakini.
Shaharuddin said that since all conditions of the notice have been complied with, the ROS has no reason not to register Harapan. -Mkini
