KUALA LUMPUR: Ninety-two members of political parties from both sides of the divide have been investigated for graft between 2013 and 2017, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Paul Low said this after Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan) accused the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) of practising double standards against opposition politicians.
Low said 71 of those investigated were from Barisan Nasional (BN), and the rest from Pakatan Harapan (PH), the opposition coalition which brings together PKR, DAP, Amanah and PPBM.
He said the investigations were carried out by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) under the MACC Act 2009.
Lim, in his question, said MACC had leaked information on its investigation into the Penang undersea tunnel project. In contrast, he said the commission had lodged a police report after details of its investigation into a Johor exco was published online.
In his reply, Low said the undersea tunnel case in Penang was published by the media and the report was not based on MACC’s investigation document.
He said in the case of the Johor exco, MACC lodged a police report over the leaked details because the information was classified.
Yesterday, Lim, who is also the Penang chief minister, hit out at several media for publishing a picture of him with a businessman, who was recently detained for allegedly receiving RM19 million to close a graft investigation into the state’s tunnel project. - FMT
