KOTA KINABALU: Opposition pact Gabungan Sabah (Gabungan) wants to build hostels for hospital visitors and caretakers if they win in the 14th general election (GE14).
Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan Rakyat) president Lajim Ukin said the proposed plan would be carried out within five years of Gabungan’s new administration.
“I often see, when visiting friends or family members at the hospital, visitors or caretakers sleeping outside the ward or lying on the hospital floor.
“In this respect, if Gabungan forms the government after the election, we will build hostel accommodation at all the main hospitals, followed by the district hospitals in the state,” he said.
Speaking during a meet-the-people session in Tamparuli, about 40km from here today, the Klias assemblyman said Gabungan wanted the public to be comfortable when they visited their next of kin.
As such, Lajim urged the people to support the four-party Gabungan opposition pact to reclaim the rights of Sabahans.
Lajim also launched seven new Harapan Rakyat branches in Tamparuli. Present were Lajim’s wife Normilah Siong, Harapan Rakyat’s deputy president Maijol Mahap, Tuaran Harapan Rakyat division head Abidin Darus and its Wanita chief, Syra Peter Gom.
Besides Harapan Rakyat, Gabungan comprises the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Sabah STAR) and Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah.
Meanwhile, Syra declared her willingness to contest the Tamparuli state seat, which is part of the Tuaran parliamentary constituency.
“I am ready to take on the responsibilities of a leader in Tamparuli to fight for the rakyat’s welfare that has been largely ignored,” she said. -FMT
