Hishammuddin chides Selangor govt over water woes

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno supreme council member Hishammuddin Hussein today chided the Selangor government for the current water problem in the state.
He also pointed out that the state government had promised free water to its residents but this remained unfulfilled.
“Now there is no water supply in my house. I am also a victim of empty election promises,” the defence minister lamented to the reporters at the media centre in the Parliament building.
On March 1, Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) announced that the SSP3 water treatment plant would be shut down for emergency repairs due to a burst pipe. This has resulted in water disruption for residents in Petaling Jaya, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. Water supply ceased on March 6 and all areas are expected to get supply back, in stages, by Sunday.
The Selangor government does not charge for the first 20 cubic metres of water used by households. However, many who live in high-rise buildings do not enjoy this facility because of problems in changing bulk water meters to individual ones.
Hishammuddin was also asked about Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto which may include free water for residents in Johor.
To this he replied: “Even Selangor has water issues. I don’t think the rakyat in Johor will be influenced.”
He said the Barisan Nasional had the advantage over PH as promises made in the latter’s previous election manifesto had not been fulfilled.
“How can we trust what will be presented now,” he said, referring to PH’s manifesto which is scheduled to be revealed tonight. -FMT
