HONOUR AND INTEGRITY OF THOSE IN UNIFORM ARE OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE

Over the past few days there has been a number of reports both in the mainstream and alternative media citing the case of Bukit Aman CID Director Wan Ahmad Najmuddin whose bank account in the Commonwealth Bank in Australia amounting to almost RM1 million has been frozen by the Australian authorities. 

The Australian Federal Police froze the account on grounds of a “flurry of suspicious cash deposits” after the CID Director’s visit to Australia 2016, where “unnamed depositors” made deposits into his account at different Commonwealth Bank branches and ATMs around the country. 

The IGP has cleared the CID Director of any wrong doing when the latter was said to have presented sufficient evidence and proof that the deposits were legally obtained, i.e., derived from the sale of his house worth RM700K. The money deposited into the Australian bank was to be used for the education of Wan Ahmad Najumddin’s daughter in Australia. The Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had also commented to say that the CID Director was “naïve about the Australian laws concerns remittance of funds” for the latter daughter’s education. 

Patriot has no reason to doubt the statement and integrity of the IGP in defending his officer. What we are very concern is the legacy of honour, selflessness, pride, and integrity we left behind when we left the service, should continue to be highly regarded by all. Honour and integrity are core values dictating those in uniform, the military and police. No action or conduct of any officer should raise doubt of such highly regarded values in the eyes of others.

Much more convincing answers from the CID Director is wanted. Ignorance of the laws in Australia and in Malaysia with regards to remitting funds is inexcusable. Furthermore, giving the impression that others have banked in monies into one’s personal account, even though anonymously deposited, is absolutely a No, No. This applies to those who hold high office, from the highest office of the executive, to lower ranking officers of government departments and agencies. Applying the legal maxim, justice must not only be done, but must be seen to be done; those in uniform should not only conduct with honour and integrity, but must also be seen and held in high esteem by the public. This applies to all politicians, especially those who hold high offices.

It is our firm believe that members of our security forces (ATM and PDRM), especially the top leaders, should not only be viewed with high esteem and impeccable integrity, but whenever any doubt or suspicion is cast upon their integrity, no effort should be spared, to ensure that the general public is satisfied the accusation/suspicion has been thoroughly and independently investigated with full transparency and without fear or favour. Without prejudice to the innocence of Wan Ahmad Najmuddin, we strongly feel that SPRM should have investigated this case and should proceed forthwith.

We Patriots, as veterans and retired police officers, would like to remind our brethren still in service, to continue to serve our King and country with pride, honour, and integrity. Continue to hold dear to such values, which are distinctive to those of us in uniform.

My comments :  I was glad to meet Brigadier General Dato Arshad Raji at a friend's house recently.  The Brigadier seems tireless in his efforts that the image of the Public Services should be salvaged and safeguarded thereafter.

Quite certainly, the image of almost ALL the government services including its uniformed groups has been severely dented. And the biggest damage has been done by corruption.  

This is the lowest point in the history of the entire Malaysian Civil Service.
