To claims of dwindling non-Muslim support, Umno minister and Padang Rengas MP Nazri Abdul Aziz has only one thing to say - that he works hard.
"I'm not a soothsayer. I don't know what's going to happen in the future.
"But I work hard to bring together all voters regardless of race, creed and belief to support me," he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.
Nazri's critics believe that the minister, who has drawn sharp criticism for his recent tirade against MCA and billionaire Robert Kuok (below), will not be able to garner much Chinese support in the upcoming general election.
The minister has held the Padang Rengas parliamentary constituency since 2004.
Commenting on a Free Malaysia Today report quoting Padang Rengas PKR chief Alias Ibrahim as saying Harapan has a bright chance in the 14th general election, Nazri said it was expected of them to be optimistic.
"So okay, it's alright, no problem. Of course, when you want to come into a boxing ring you have to be confident.
"If you're not confident how can you enter a fight," he said.
In the last general election, Nazri defeated PKR's Meor Ahmad Isharra Ishak by a 2,230 vote majority.
Meanwhile, on Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad who sarcastically said that he was willing to contest under DAP's banner in the coming polls, Nazri merely laughed when asked for his comment.
"(Laughs) That's my comment," said Nazri to laughter from media personnel present. -Mkini
