PH Youth: Why investigate memo handover to RoS?

PUTRAJAYA: Pakatan Harapan Youth leaders have questioned the intention of police to call them up for questioning at the Putrajaya district police headquarters.

The Youth chiefs of Amanah, PPBM and DAP were summoned to give their statements following the memorandum they handed over to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) in February.

Amanah Youth chief Mohd Sani Hamzan questioned why they were being investigated.

“Why are the police investigating us when the focus should be on the memorandum that we handed over to RoS?

“We are allowed by the constitution to gather and hand over memorandums.

“Don’t tell me our democratic country calls for handovers of memoranda to be investigated by the police,” he said outside the Putrajaya district police headquarters here today.

He said police were hassling them by asking them to give their statements when the opposition parties had to prepare for the 14th general election.

“We are politicians and we are busy preparing ourselves to defeat the Umno-Barisan Nasional government. Anyway, we will give our full cooperation to the police.”

DAP Youth national chief Wong Kah Woh said it was “ridiculous and frivolous” to call up PH youth leaders for questioning.

“Two days ago, PPBM Youth chief Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman, Sani and myself had received calls from the police asking us to come over to get our statements recorded.

“We will cooperate with the police but this action to call us up is ridiculous.

“On the day we handed over the memorandum, we broke no laws.

“I will ask the police if we three are being investigated or are just witnesses. We want to know who made the police report about the memorandum handover.

“We want to know if the report was made by police or RoS,” he said.

In February, more than 50 youth representatives from all four PH parties gathered at Complex D in Putrajaya to hand over a memorandum to RoS, urging it to expedite approval of PH and investigations into PPBM.

Among those present were Syed Saddiq, Wong and Sani.

Syed Saddiq handed over the memorandum to RoS management division director Mohd Rejab Ramli at the entrance of the complex at 2.30pm before dispersing at 3pm. -FMT
