SUPP to 'co-operate' with UPP in GE14

Sarawak United People’s Party will lend its support to all BN candidates selected for the 14th general election (GE14), including those from its splinter United People’s Party (UPP).
UPP Youth central committee chief Dr Johnical Rayong said the proposed memorandum between UPP and SUPP for both parties to cooperate during GE14 will soon be signed.
Johnical said this during a press conference at the party’s Padungan branch in Kuching today.
Johnical, who is also the assemblyperson for Engkili, told reporters the proposed signing of “the agreement” between UPP president Wong Soon Koh and SUPP president Dr Sim Kui Hian is on course and progressing.
“The signing ceremony will be witnessed by Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg,” he added.
Without giving further details of when and where the signing will take place, he said the memorandum will be “something positive” whereby both the parties will be working together in the coming GE14.
UPP was established in 2014 by Bawang Assan assemblyperson Wong and three state assemblypersons, in the wake of a leadership struggle within SUPP.
In solidarity with BN
Earlier, UPP Youth secretary Yap Min Su made a declaration that the party would be lending its unwavering support to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to lead the country on.
He said the Youth wing was also committed to lending its support to party president Wong, and all BN candidates in GE14.
“We are in solidarity to support all of the BN candidates for GE14. We will ensure each BN candidate will fully receive our backing in every way,” Yap said, adding: “We believe in the principle of unity to serve for the advancement of Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole.”
He added that UPP youths were “most grateful” to the prime minister for returning Sarawak its rights, which had allegedly diminished under the 22-year regime of Dr Mahathir Mohamad. -Mkini
