This time we can take Penang, says confident Zahid

BUTTERWORTH: Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today appealed to Barisan Nasional (BN) parties in Penang to put behind past electoral losses and focus on wresting the state from Pakatan Harapan (PH) at the coming polls.
Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, said it was time for all BN parties to work hard to reverse the “suffering” of the Penang people since 2008 election which swept DAP to power in the state.
“We have a chance to take back Penang,” he said at the opening of Batu Kawan Umno’s office at Taman Seri Delima, Juru, here today.
Zahid said he was confident of BN winning the Batu Kawan parliamentary seat, as well as the state seats of Perai, Bukit Tengah and Bukit Tambun.
“We can take them back. We need to work hard, the people have suffered long enough.”
Batu Kawan’s current MP is DAP’s Kasthuri Patto, while Bukit Tengah and Bukit Tambun are respectively held by PKR’s Ong Chin Wen and Law Choo Kiang, the Penang state speaker. Perai is held by Penang Deputy Chief Minister (II), P Ramasamy.
Zahid also announced RM4 million to upgrade a religious school and a mosque in the constituency.
Meanwhile, RM2 million is set aside for non-Muslim places of worship and single parents in Batu Kawan.
He said Gerakan, MCA, MIC and myPPP would be allocated RM500,000 each to channel the funds for the initiatives. -FMT
