An MIC leader has taken a shot at Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng over a photograph purportedly of him and a businessman being probed by the MACC over the Penang tunnel project.
MIC treasurer S Vell Paari claimed the businessesman was notorious among the Indian community as he was allegedly involved in a cheating case known as the “VenusFX forex scam”.
“That suspect is involved in a case where many Malaysian Indians were cheated out of their hard earned money and savings, where (former treasurer) R Ramanan and I had personally exposed him less than two years ago.
“As such, many individuals who are familiar with the suspect have told me that the photo of Penang chief minister with the suspect was indeed taken in the lavish private home of the suspect,” said Vell in a statement today.
The Penang Chief Minister's Office has called attempts to link him to the figure a “disgusting” attempt to smear Lim's name.
This was in response to BN strategic communications deputy director Eric See-To, who had asked Lim to verify a viral photopurportedly showing him next to the businessman.

“This is not only ridiculous but a disgusting attempt to smear the Penang chief minister by relying on one photograph,” said the CM's Office, adding the chief minister has photographs taken with many people.
Vell: Sue me
Vell said the suspect's past notoriety requires Lim to explain to the Indian community his relationship with the said figure.
“DAP and the chief minister must tell us when and why he visited the suspect’s house. What dealings or businesses does he have with this MACC suspect?
“If the photo was indeed not from the suspect’s house, of which I am certain it was, the Penang chief minister and DAP is more than welcome to sue me,” he said.
MACC is probing the suspect for an allegedly taking money from tunnel contractor Consortium Zenith Sdn to get the commission to drop its probe.
The case arose after Zenith sent the man and another individual demand letters over the agreement.
Zenith initially claimed the other individual was Umno Baling MP Abdul Azeez Rahim, but eventually clearedhis name.
Meanwhile, Lim has sent Zenith a letter demanding an explanation for the dubious arrangement with the duo. -Mkini
