1MDB special committee given briefing on declassified report

Putrajaya's special committee on the 1MDB affair today was briefed by representatives from the Finance Ministry, Securities Commission and the Auditor-General's Department.
Committee chairperson Abu Talib Othman said the committee had sought clarifications from three agencies in relations to the Auditor-General's Department report on 1MDB.
"They briefed and explained to us about the 1MDB reports, which has now been declassified," he said when met after the committee's meeting in Kuala Lumpur today.
When asked when investigations on 1MDB would be completed, Abu Talib, who was once attorney-general, said: "Only God knows".
The five-member 1MDB committee was formed by Putrajaya soon after Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad took office.
The committee has been tasked with coordinating overseeing a special taskforce probing the criminal elements of the 1MDB affair and taking steps to repatriate 1MDB's assets from abroad.
Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak had ordered the Auditor-General's Department to investigate 1MDB in 2015. However, he reneged his promise to make the audit report public.
It was only made public after Mahathir took office.
The audit report corroborated with many allegations of wrondoings alleged by the US Department of Justice (DOJ), which the Najib-administration once claimed was unproven allegations.  -Mkini
