MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad has tendered his resignation to chief secretary to the government, Ali Hamsa this morning.
This is after Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad met Ali and other senior government officials at the Yayasan Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya.
“The resignation letter has been submitted to Mahathir for approval.
“It has yet to decided who will replace Dzulkifli,” a source told Malaysiakini.
Meanwhile, another source told Malaysiakini that Dzulkifli will be moving back to the Attorney-General’s Chambers, where he served prior to his MACC stint.
Soon after winning the 14th general election, Mahathir warned that heads would roll in several agencies.
He accused MACC of ignoring widespread corruption.
“We will study if MACC is fair or not. If we find they were biased in any way, including to ourselves (those in Pakatan Harapan), we will have to change them.
“As we promised, the new major heads of government (agencies) will be vetted by Parliament,” he said.
Malaysiakini is trying to reach Dzulkifli, who was appointed on July 29, 2016, for comment.
Mahathir had also mentioned that there is no attorney-general at the moment but Mohamed Apandi Ali was reported to have clocked in for work as normal this morning.
The prime minister claimed that Apandi concealed evidence regarding the 1MDB scandal, but the latter denied this.
Also in Mahathir’s crosshairs is Election Commission chairperson Mohd Hashim Abdullah.
Report: Vehicles exiting MACC HQ searched
Vehicles exiting the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya are being searched, reported Berita Harian.
A video uploaded by the daily showed MACC security personnel opening the boot of a vehicle leaving the premises.
It is uncertain why these checks are taking place nor can it be ascertained if MACC head Dzukefly Ahmad was still fully in charge.
The MACC became a focal point immediately after Dr Mahathir Mohamad was appointed prime minister on Thursday and promised to undertake reform measures.
Last Friday, Mahathir, in an unofficial policy speech, indicated that there may be changes made to the heads of key government agencies.
Mahathir had said that his administration would study if the MACC had been fair.
“We will study if the MACC is fair or not. If we find they were biased in any way, including to ourselves (those in Pakatan Harapan), we will have to change them.
“As we promised, the new major heads of government (agencies) will be vetted by Parliament,” he said. – MKINI
Apandi: I am now in office doing my normal work
PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali reported to work Monday, the first working day since Pakatan Harapan took over the government following the May 9 polls.
“Yes, I did. In fact I am now in office doing my normal work,” the embattled Attorney-General said when asked if he had reported into his office.
When asked about comments made by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that some government agencies and their heads would be investigated, Apandi did not want to comment.
Dr Mahathir had claimed that the A-G had “undermined his own credibility” and indicated that several government servants would be investigated for their roles in the aborted investigations into 1MDB.
“We are legal advisers to the government of the day and at the same time, we are the prosecutor of criminal offences as determined by law.
“We shall strive to uphold the law at all times, irrespective of the political scenario,” Apandi said on Friday (May 11).
Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo had also called on Apandi to step down as Attorney-General now that Dr Mahathir expressed no confidence in him.
The DAP deputy chairman said he is of the view that it is untenable for Apandi to remain as A-G and must resign.
“It is quite clear that the Prime Minister expressed no confidence in him by saying there is no A-G in the country now.
“Dr Mahathir has also said in no uncertain terms that he is of the view that there is basis for a probe into the manner in which the 1MDB case was dealt with.
“I am of the view that it would be difficult if not impossible, for Apandi to therefore remain as A-G,” he said in a statement on Sunday (May 13). – ANN
