Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan chairperson Aminuddin Harun was sworn in as the eighth menteri besar of Negeri Sembilan today following Harapan winning over the state in the 14th general election (GE14).
The swearing in of Aminuddin, 51, was held before the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, at the Istana Besar Seri Menanti in Kuala Pilah.
Gracing the ceremony were Tunku Ampuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud and the Putera Yang Empat Prince Tunku Besar Seri Menanti, Tunku Ali Redhauddin Ibni Tuanku Muhriz and Tunku Panglima Besar Tunku Nadzaruddin ibni Almarhum Tuanku Jaafar.
Also present were the Undang Luak Johol Johan Pahlawan Lela Perkasa Setiawan Muhammed Abdullah, Undang Luak Sungai Ujong Klana Petra Mubarak Dohak and Undang Luak Rembau Lela Maharaja Muhamad Sharip Othman.
Aminuddin, who is scheduled to meet his father in Kampung Panchitan after the ceremony, was born on Jan 2, 1967 at Kampung Panchitan, Port Dickson, and is married to Wan Hasni Wan Yusof, 48. The couple has five children, three boys and two girls.
Aminuddin, who is into his third term as Sikamat assemblyperson after winning the seat in 2008, received his early education at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tanah Merah, Port Dickson and later pursued business studies at Institut Teknologi Mara (ITM) (now UiTM).
Prior to his active involvement in politics, Aminuddin climbed the corporate ladder, among others as a junior supervisor at TDK (1989); a stint at the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) from 1991 to 1995 in Penang and Selangor; production planning head at Golden Hope Furniture Sdn Bhd; and joined MCIS Safety Glass (M) Sdn Bhd (1996–2008) as sales division chief, management committee, internal investigation panel and auditor.
In the local political scene, his involvement started as Kampung Panchitan Umno branch secretary (1995-1998); Jimah Umno division youth secretary (1997-1998); Negeri Sembilan PKR youth information chief (1999-2000); Seremban PKR deputy youth chief (1999-2000); Seremban PKR division permanent chairman and committee member (2002-2007) and PKR campaign manager for Ampangan state constituency (2004).
He has also served as the PKR coordinator of the Negeri Sembilan election machinery during the Permatang Pauh by-election; Seremban PKR branch deputy chief (2007-present); PKR central executive council (MPP) member (2014 – present) and Negeri Sembilan PKR executive council member (2014 – present).
Meanwhile, Aminuddin in his speech expressed his gratitude to receiving the consent from Tuanku Muhriz on his appointment as the new menteri besar to navigate the state administration for his first term and promised to carry out his responsibility to administer the state well, sincerely and honestly.
“We will also strive to ensure transparent and open administration for the prosperity of the people in the state, and total support from all parties is needed to achieve this ambition in particular from the leadership and civil servants in the state,” he said.
