Perak Pakatan Harapan has claimed that the state ruler, Sultan Nazrin Shah, has given his consent for them to form the state government after the defections of two BN assemblypersons.
"We have already obtained enough seats for a majority, and we will form the state government as soon as possible.
"We had get support from two BN assemblypersons, and thus we already have 31 state seats," state Harapan chief Ahmad Faizal Azumu told the media outside the Istana Kinta after meeting with the sultan.
Perak Harapan assemblypersons had arrived at the palace at around 12pm today, and left over an hour later.
Earlier this morning, three PAS assemblypersons also met with the sultan. The vehicle of BN caretaker menteri besar, Zambry Abd Kadir, was also seen entering the compound.
However, Ahmad Faizal refused to reveal the identities of the two BN assemblypersons who jumped ship.
He only stated that Sultan Nazrin Shah is pleased with the choice of 31 assemblypersons, and will decide when the swearing in ceremony for the menteri besar will be held.
In Wednesday’s polls, Harapan won a total of 29 seats, one short of the 30 required to form a simple majority in the state assembly.
Zambry, meanwhile, informed media that Perak BN will hold a press conference at 3pm.
