Chief Secretary Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa impressed upon public workers today of their legal duty to the government, amid an unprecedented change of power in Malaysia.
Following Pakatan Harapan’s victory in the 14th general election yesterday, he said the entire civil service was obligated to accept and respect the results as announced by Election Commission.
The EC has stated that the PH parties jointly have 113 seats or sufficient to form a majority government.
“Based on Article 132 (2A) of the Constitution, the public services will continue to serve the government selected by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he said.
“As such, I call on all federal public service personnel, state public services, federal and state statutory bodies and local authorities, to further carry out their responsibilities in delivering their service to the people while staying loyal to the king, country and the elected government.”
PH chairman and prime minister-elect Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is waiting to be sworn in, saying earlier that he hoped the ceremony scheduled for this morning will take place at least by 5pm today.
Chairman of the defeated Barisan Nasional Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced earlier that his coalition accepted the decision of Malaysian voters yesterday.
