Daim: I came out for Harapan because of redelineation, fake news law

GE14 | Former finance minister Daim Zainuddin has explained why he formally joined Pakatan Harapan’s campaign trail for the 14th general election.
“I don’t agree with redelineation, I don’t agree with the Anti-Fake News Act 2018, I think these are not necessary.
“I advised the government, ‘Please do not do this, we have enough problems, why do you create more problems, people are already angry with you’,” he told reporters after campaigning for Harapan Lembah Pantai candidate Fahmi Fadzil at PPR Kerinchi tonight.
“Malaysians are very reasonable people. If you admit the truth they will accept it.
“But if you deny this and use the law to manipulate things, they will say ‘Ah, there is something wrong’,” he added.
When pressed if his personal advice was dispensed to caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, Daim only chuckled and said “I will not mention.”
‘Let’s remove Umno’
Earlier that night in his speech, the former Umno man had roused the 150 or so in the audience to “buang Umno” (remove Umno) in the 14th general election.
He also poked fun at Najib’s wife Rosmah Mansor.
“Voting BN is voting for his wife, that wife is Najib’s wife.
“I thank Najib for choosing Rabu (Wednesday) as polling day, because it stands for Rakyat Akan Buang Umno (the people will remove Umno).
“On May 9, don’t forget Rabu, lets go remove Umno!” he said.
Daim also lambasted the GST, saying that the government never had to implement the tax during his time as finance minister in the 1990s, despite the country facing a recession.
He was finance minister twice, once from 1984 to 1991, and again from 1999 to 2001. He oversaw the 1985 and 1998 financial recessions.
In his speech, he appeared to speak on behalf of Harapan, endorsing Fahmi and drumming support for the coalition to form the next government after the polls.

“I promise the rakyat that if you give us (Harapan) a chance, we will clean up the country in five years, we will fight for the rakyat.
“We will restore the economy and save the country.
“If we don’t, you can vote us out,” he said. -Mkini
