Dr M says no AG, Apandi says no comment

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has said that the administration does not have an attorney-general currently.
“We have placed certain restrictions on a number of people who may be involved in wrongdoings, or making wrong decisions.
“So at the moment, we do not have an attorney-general,” Mahathir said in a press conference held at the Bersatu headquarters today.
He was responding to a reporter’s question on what was going to happen to the attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali and whether there were any ongoing investigations against him.
However, according to Article 145 of the Federal Constitution, the attorney-general “shall not be removed from office except on the like grounds and in the like manner as a judge of the Federal Court”.
Malaysiakini contacted Apandi for his response to this matter but he declined to comment.
“No comment, thank you,” he said.
Yesterday, Mahathir had claimed that Apandi hid evidence of wrongdoing in the 1MDB scandal.
Apandi had denied those allegations and said that his conscience is clear.
Back in January 2016, Apandi had cleared former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak of wrongdoing in the 1MDB scandal. -Mkini
