Outgoing MACC chief Dzulkifli Ahmad, who resigned from his position today, congratulated Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad who led Pakatan Harapan to victory in the May 9 general election.
Mahathir, who helped end BN's 61-year rule, had accused the MACC of ignoring corruption scandals, including the 1MDB matter.
"I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mahathir for his appointment as the seventh prime minister after winning the 14th general election on May 9," he said in a statement today.
Dzulkifli also confirmed that he had resigned from his position.
"I would like to humbly inform that I have submitted my letter of termination for my contract as the MACC chief to the chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa today.
"The contract termination is effective today and I will report back to the Attorney-General's Chambers tomorrow," he said.
Dzulkifli, originally with the Attorney-General's Chambers, was seconded to the MACC after the retirement of former chief Abu Kassim Mohamed.
The MACC saw a change in leadership following its investigation into then-prime minister Najib Abdul Razak over the multi-billion ringgit deposits in his personal bank account and the 1MDB matter.
Najib had resigned as BN chairperson and Umno president after leading the coalition to its first defeat since independence.
Dzulkifli also thanked the MACC for the support it had given him.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at MACC for their undivided support throughout my tenure since Aug 1, 2016." -Mkini
