A Bersatu member has lodged two police reports over alleged insults to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The report is possibly the first of its kind under the new Pakatan Harapan government, and was previously a common practice among staunch defenders of then-prime minister Najib Abdul Razak during the BN administration.
According to Berita Harian, Ipoh Barat Bersatu chief Afzainizam Salleh lodged the reports against two Facebook users who had posted allegedly derogatory messages against Mahathir.
"All the statuses on their social media accounts contain provocations which insult the prime minister which was done before election day until now, and the statuses are still being shared by hundreds of others," Afzainizam said.
He said there are many other accounts out there posting allegedly insulting material against the prime minister.
"We ask the people to come forward and lodge reports so that action can be taken against those (who insult the prime minister)," he added.
During the Najib administration, numerous individuals had been charged under the Communications and Multimedia Act over social media postings that mock the prime minister. - Mkini
