Harapan MP to set-up taskforce on MIC-related scandals

PKR lawmaker Dr Edmund Santhara will set up a taskforce to look into the scandals linked to MIC.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, the former Masterskill Education Group Bhd CEO said he considered this his responsibility after defeating MIC president Dr S Subramaniam in the general election.
“First and foremost, I would need to collect more feedback from the public and affected parties to determine if there are issues related to MIC which warrant further investigation.
“If there are sufficient grounds to do so, then I would refer to the party leadership for a more in-depth probe by the relevant authorities,” he added.
He said the taskforce would garner the views and complaints from the public as well as MIC members on this matter.
Santhara emphasised the importance to act in accordance with the rule of law.
“Our leaders have stressed this. We cannot simply take action. There must be a proper procedure. For starters, we would work on collecting feedback from the affected parties,” he added.
In the May 9 general election, the PKR national integration bureau chairperson emerged as one of many giant slayers after defeating Subramaniam with a majority of 5,476 votes.
Subramaniam was the three-term MP for the Segamat parliamentary constituency in Johor, which has always been a MIC stronghold.
MIC only managed to win two parliament seats – Tapah and Cameron Highlands.

The historic election witnessed the ouster of BN after six-decades of uninterrupted rule and the return of Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister.
Apart from MIC, the presidents of three other component parties were also routed – MCA's Liow Tiong Lai, Gerakan's Mah Siew Keong and SUPP's Dr Sim Kui Hian. - Mkini
