Shahrir resigns as Felda chair

Shahrir Abdul Samad is said to have resigned from his position as chairperson of the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), according to The Star Online.
The portal reports that a farewell gathering was held for him at Felda’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur earlier today.
A replacement was not named.
This comes about 16 months after Shahrir was brought in by former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak to reform the troubled agency.
Former chairperson Mohd Isa Abdul Samad had left the position with Felda besieged by scandal.
The MACC later arrested Isa, raided his home and charged him in court over Felda Investment Corporation's (FIC) alleged overpriced purchase of two hotels in London and Kuching.
With Shahrir at the helm, however, Felda was once again involved in a dispute over how several parcels of land it owned were transferred to a private developer under dubious circumstances.
Felda later regained possession of the land.
In last week’s polls, seven-term Johor Bahru MP Shahrir was ousted by newcomer Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir from PKR.
Akmal won with an almost 20,000 majority. -Mkini
