IN LATEST BLOW TO UMNO, SYED HAMID MAKES IT CLEAR HE IS SUPPORTING POSITIVE CHANGE – NOT BN

Former minister Syed Hamid Albar is puzzled and tickled that his open letter to Malaysians has been interpreted as supporting BN.
“My statement was clear that I support positive change, democracy, and free elections, not BN,” he tweeted this morning.
Syed Hamid also responded to another Twitter user, who accused the former Umno supreme council member of attempting to remain noticed.
“At this age my friend, I don’t think I want to be noticed. I had enough of that.
“I’m more concerned about building a united country with integrity and respect. Sayang pada negara (love for the country),” he replied.
However, Syed Hamid did not mention who had interpreted his remarks as an endorsement for BN.
In his open letter yesterday, Syed Hamid urged Malaysians to vote with their conscience in order to usher in a positive change in Wednesday’s general election.
“Vote with your heart. Vote sincerely. Let good judgment prevail.
“Vote for people with integrity, honour, transparency, accountability and those who are hardworking and trustworthy, so that these qualities can be imbued in a government they represent,” he said.
“We as voters are not here to make the strong even stronger. Let us not fall into that trap.
“I truly believe if we unite with our common goal to amplify the voice of reason, justice and honour, God willing, this will prevail over deceits, lies and falsehood,” he added.
Syed Hamid is the latest Umno veteran to lend support to the movement for change spearheaded by his former boss, Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Three other veterans, Rafidah Aziz, Daim Zainuddin and Rais Yatim, have been more forthright in their call.
The three have also attended Pakatan Harapan ceramah.
