The Batu Kawan DAP incumbent says presence of mothers at rallies, ceramahs and walkabouts show their desire for an end to corruption and abuse of power.
PETALING JAYA: DAP’s Batu Kawan incumbent Kasthuri Patto has applauded women, especially mothers, for coming to the forefront and demanding for an accountable government.
She said the presence of mothers at rallies, ceramahs and walkabouts showed their desire for not only accountability but also an end to corruption and abuse of power.
Kasthuri, who will be defending her seat, said having more women candidates under the Pakatan Harapan banner had brought out more women, especially mothers, to stand together to demand for change.
“When mothers begin joining rallies, you know Malaysia is in trouble.
“The hand that rocks the cradle, rules the world. Come May 9, the same hands will also protect a nation and discipline a corrupt regime,” Kasthuri said in a statement in conjunction with Mother’s Day on May 13.
She said the mothers would make their presence felt this election to ensure the right government was chosen.
They wanted policies pertaining to the rights and protection of children to be put in place and women’s voices heard in and outside the Dewan Rakyat.
“This is to ensure their rights can be safeguarded so that better practices are in place to assist women back into the labour force and provide affordable childcare to all working mothers.
“They want women empowered to speak up without fear and for men to be sensitised on gender equality.”
She said there was also a need for more women to hold decision-making positions.
“It’s time to see what a more competent, accountable, transparent, clean government, as we have seen under the two PH leaderships in Penang and Selangor, can do by putting women, youths and children in the forefront and using only the best practices used by other more developed nations,” she added. - FMT
