BN leader Najib Abdul Razak and his chief antagonist Dr Mahathir Mohamad are scheduled to attend rallies in Kuala Lumpur tonight.
Najib has been scheduled to attend a large BN rally at PPR Komuniti Gombak Setia where he will campaign for BN’s Wangsa Maju candidate Yew Teong Look.
About a 15-minute drive away, Bersatu will be holding a rally at the Flat Desa Pandan, which Mahathir and the party’s president Muhyiddin Yassin are scheduled to attend.
Both events are scheduled for 9pm and are approximately 13km apart.
This will be likely the first time that Najib and Mahathir appear at rallies in such close proximity and observers will be keen to see who pulls the bigger crowd.
There are 11 parliamentary seats in Kuala Lumpur, of which BN won only two in 2013.
This time round, BN is expected to put up a stiff challenge in six of these seats – Batu, Wangsa Maju, Setiawangsa, Titiwangsa, Lembah Pantai and Bandar Tun Razak.
Bersatu has fielded only one candidate in Kuala Lumpur, which is the party’s women’s wing leader Rina Mohd Harun.
She will be contesting for the Titiwangsa parliamentary seat, taking on one-term incumbent Johari Abdul Ghani and PAS’ Mohamad Noor Mohamad.
