PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin says voters will not be tricked into changing their minds about whom to vote by the 11th hour promises of the BN chairman.
MUAR: Pagoh incumbent Muhyiddin Yassin views caretaker Prime Minister Najib Razak’s eleventh hour promises as a desperate call to ‘sway’ voters.
Muhyiddin, who was former deputy prime minister, said nothing could change the people’s decision if they had already made up their mind.
“He can offer the moon and sun, but voters won’t be tricked by those promises. By right he, as a caretaker prime minister, cannot offer or promise people anything.
“It is not right. And to talk about young working adults not needing to pay income tax, who pays income tax when they first start working? These should have been included in their manifesto,” he said.
Last night, Najib, who is also Umno president, said young people aged 26 years and below, would be given income tax exemption from the year of assessment 2017 and subsequent years with immediate effect.
In his special message Najib promised to make May 14-15 public holidays for Malaysians to prepare for Ramadan and that all highways would be toll-free for five days in June during the Hari Raya period if BN won the election.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin, the PPBM president, said he could feel the challenges involved in standing on the “other side”.
“When I was voting on the Barisan National’s side in the last general election, it didn’t feel as challenging. Now that I’m with the opposition, I feel the real challenge. But I feel positive seeing so many voters turning up this early,” he said.
Muhyiddin said he had given his fullest support for PPBM’s Muar candidate Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and Maharani state candidate Norhayati Bachok. - FMT
