Muhyiddin retains Pagoh and wins Gambir


PAGOH: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic) has successfully defended his Pagoh parliamentary seat and won the Gambir state seat.
Muhyiddin staved off a stiff challenge in a three-cornered fight with his protégé, Barisan Nasional candidate Ismail Mohamed, and PAS' Ahmad Nawfal Mahfodz.
Muhyiddin, who was absent at the counting station here, was declared the winner by a majority of 6,927 votes.
He garnered 22,558 votes, Ismail received 16,631 and Ahmad Nawfal got 2,483 votes.
The win also means Muhyiddin is the longest serving MP for Pagoh.
He served as MP here between 1978 and 1986 before being appointed Johor Mentri Besar.
He again contested for the seat in 1995 and has held it since.
The Johor Pakatan Harapan chief also won the Gambir state seat in a three-cornered fight with incumbent Johor MIC chief Datuk M. Asojan and PAS syura council chief Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamed.

Muhyiddin got 10,280 votes, Asojan had 7,192 and Dr Mahfodz managed 1,806 votes.
He won the seat by a 3,088-vote majority.- Star
