Najib to Mokhzani: Don't insult BR1M, you got billions when dad was PM

GE14 | Caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has criticised Dr Mahathir Mohamad's son Mokhzani over the latter's remarks concerning BR1M.
He said the financial aid might not matter to him because the businessman had “received Petronas contracts worth billions when his father was prime minister”.
“He is rich, let it be. But don't insult the poor. They need help. The BN government helps because we prioritise the people,” he added.
Mahathir's critics have often used the financial standing of his children to accuse the former premier of nepotism.
However, Mahathir has always denied that his children benefitted from his position.
Speaking at a recent ceramah in Kedah, Mokhzani, whom Forbes magazine listed among the richest people in Malaysia, claimed that receiving BR1M is not something to be proud of.
“We can be proud and be like champions when we are rich. We can feel great with our own hard-earned money... It is not about people giving us money so we can survive. That is not greatness.
“We can feel proud when we are able to ensure our livelihood is taken care of, and we can take care of our own families,” he had said.
Mokhzani's remarks also drew flak from MIC treasurer-general S Vell Paari, who accused Mahathir's son of losing touch with the common people.
“Everyone in Malaysia knows how Mokhzani made his billions. In fact, Anwar Ibrahim once said that Mokhzani's Kenchana Petroleum received most of the projects from Petronas.
“Mahathir was also once the advisor of Petronas,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mokhzani recently said he was unperturbed by questions surrounding the source of his wealth.

“I would not bother about it. It is the election, they would say things,” he said.
Mokhzani also claimed that BN had forgotten the time when it used to seek his help to fund its campaigns.
“Back then they knew how to ask my help and I used to help them but now they have forgotten that,” he said, although he declined to comment if he was funding Pakatan Harapan. - Mkini
