OUT-OF-THE-BLUE ECRL JOB OFFER TRIGGERS SUSPICION LIOW MUST BE LOSING BADLY IN BENTONG: 70% WORKFORCE FOR MEGA RAIL PROJECT MUST BE MASSIVE YET ONLY ONE-DAY RECRUITMENT DRIVE?

BENTONG: There will be a recruitment drive here for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) construction project on Friday (May 4), which aims to have 70% of its workforce comprising local residents.

The one-day recruitment drive, hosted by project owner Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) and main contractor China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC), will be held at the Bentong Chinese Assembly Hall at Jalan Chui Yin from 9am to 5pm.

In a press release, the MRL said available jobs include administration, engineering, construction management, commercial, contract and laboratory workers.

Other jobs include concreters, barbenders, formworkers, testers, welders, electricians, wheel loaders and excavator operators.

Fresh civil engineering graduates as well as skilled, semi-skilled and entry-level construction workers – preferably between 18 and 35 years old – are encouraged to attend the walk-in interviews.

Candidates are reminded to bring along their resume, passport-sized photos as well as the original copies and photocopies of their educational certificates.

The MRL said candidates stand a chance to be enrolled into a three-month ECRL industrial skills training programme.

Upon completion, trainees will be absorbed as full-time employees, either by MRL, CCCC or its subcontractors.

MRL chief executive officer Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak said MRL and CCCC planned to hold recruitment drives in west coast states as well as in Sabah and Sarawak to reach out to potential workers.

Caretaker Transport Minister and incumbent Bentong MP Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai told reporters on Thursday that infrastructure projects like the ECRL will create more platforms to entice young people to return to work in Bentong.

“ECRL brings many commercial opportunities at towns along its railway route, which will boost economic growth.

“It will surely help Bentong develop into a satellite town of greater Kuala Lumpur,” he said before a walkabout at the Bentong market.
