Pakatan wins Pandan by a landslide


AMPANG: Pakatan Harapan makes a clean sweep of Pandan and the two state seats within it in GE14.
PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (pic) won by a landslide majority of 52,543 votes in a five-cornered tussle against Barisan Nasional, PAS, Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) and an Independent candidate.
She managed to get 64,733 for the parliament seat.
Datuk Leong Kok Wee from Barisan received 12,190 votes while PAS' Mohamed Sukri Omar PAS garnered 8,336 votes.
Social activist and lawyer Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz who contested as an Independent only managed to get 73 votes.
PRM's Jenice Lee Ying Ha, who contested both the parliamentary and the Teratai state seats, had 442 and 529 votes respectively.
In Teratai, DAP’s Bryan Lai Wai Chong won with 34,453 votes, against Lee, Gerakan’s Liew Pok Boon and Mohd Irman Abdul Wahab from PAS.
Liew and Mohd Irman only had 4,784 and 5,028 votes respectively.
For the Pandan Indah state seat (renamed from Chempaka), incumbent Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad (PAS) lost with 7,517 votes against Selangor Amanah chief Izham Hashim with 24,914 votes.
Meanwhile, Pandan Umno chief Datuk Mohd Haniff Koslan of Barisan garnered 8,528 votes.
Out of 101,319 registered voters in Pandan, the turnout was 85.4%.
Former Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli from PKR won the seat in the 2013 General Election with a majority of 26,729 votes against MCA’s Lim Chin Yee and Independent candidate Tan Yew Leng.- Star
