Red shirts' leader Jamal Yunos detained for firearms offence

Sungai Besar Umno leader Jamal Md Yunos has been arrested for a firearms offence, according to Selangor police chief Mazlan Mansor.
In a statement, he said Jamal, who is better known as the leader of the red shirts and his bizarre protests, was detained at the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital around 1.15pm.
"The suspect is still being detained at the hospital as he is undergoing treatment," he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 34 of the Arms Act 1960 which concerns the carrying of a firearm while drunk or disorderly.
Mazlan also revealed that on May 12, a police report was lodged on a viral photograph showing a man resembling Jamal showing off a gun.
The photograph, which emerged in late 2016, showed the man holding a toddler in one hand while a gun was tucked into his waistband. However, from the photograph, it could not be ascertained if this was a real firearm.
In May 2016, Malay Armed Forces Veteran Associaton president Mohd Ali Baharom, better known as Ali Tinju, had lodged a police report against Jamal.
Ali alleged Jamal had threatened to assault and shoot him.
Mazlan said there were also several other pending cases against Jamal.
He said two more arrest warrants relating to separate cases would also be issued against Jamal after he is out of the hospital. -Mkini
