Sarawak's Chong, Baru Bian tipped to be appointed to cabinet

Sarawak Pakatan Harapan chairperson Chong Chieng Jen and state PKR chief Baru Bian have been cited as among those tipped to be appointed to the new federal cabinet.
According to sources, Malaysiakini understands that at least two Sarawak parliamentary members will be announced in the next list of cabinet ministers.
The sources said there would be an additional one or two more portfolios to be added in the forthcoming announcement of cabinet ministers.
Chong, when contacted, refused to divulge further details about the meeting held yesterday with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"Ok, not too bad. Well, it was just a courtesy call from Pakatan Harapan and we talked about the future of Sarawak," he told Malaysiakini.
Chong led a delegation of six from Sarawak, who included Baru Bian, Mohamad Fidzuan Zaidi (Sarawak Amanah chief), Alan Ling (Sarawak DAP secretary), Vernon Kedit (Sarawak Harapan information chief) and Abang Halil (Sarawak Amanah secretary).
Asked about the appointments as cabinet ministers, Chong was coy about the decision.
"Let it be announced first, all right? Just wait for the PM's announcement," he said.
Both Baru Bian and Fidzuan Zaidi declined to comment on the details of the meeting as well.
The meeting between Mahathir and the Sarawak Harapan delegation was held at 4pm yesterday and lasted about an hour. They met at the Perdana Leadership Foundation office in Putrajaya.
Chong also said the state Harapan chiefs would issue a statement in the coming weeks with regard to the Sarawak Harapan deal and issues related to the interests of the state.
"We will disclose the detailed parts later, in a week or two… yesterday's session was just a courtesy call."
Chong defeated Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) president Dr Sim Kui Hian in GE14 in the Stampinparliamentary constituency by a majority of 14,221 votes.
Baru Bian won the Selangau seat after defeating Parti Rakyat Sarawak's Rita Sarimah by a majority of 486 votes.
Harapan won 10 seats in Sarawak in GE14 and currently has 12 seats in total, after independents Larry Sng (Julau) and Jugah Muyang (Lubok Antu) joined PKR. Both DAP and PKR have six MPs each while BN took 19 seats. -Mkini
