SHAH ALAM: PKR’s Sivarasa Rasiah and two settlers in Ijok, Selangor today filed a suit against Umno Supreme Council member Irmohizam Ibrahim, over a claim that they deceived settlers in a deal reached with two private developers three years ago.
The suit was filed at the Shah Alam High Court after Irmohizam, the incumbent MP for Kuala Selangor, did not respond to a letter of demand sent on April 17, a day after Irmohizam issued a press statement regarding the Ijok land deal.
Sivarasa and two others representing settlers, Umar Ali Basah and Abd Hamd Johari, said Irmohizam implied they were involved in a syndicate to deceive the settlers.
“The claim is baseless and is intended to tarnish our reputation and give the perception that we are dishonest and acted unethically for personal interest,” they said in the statement of claim.
They said his statement was without basis and made in bad faith, affecting their reputation and standing.
Sivarasa, who won the Subang parliamentary seat in 2013 and who is PKR’s candidate in Sungai Buloh for the coming polls, said Irmohizam’s statement implied he was untrustworthy and not fit to practise law and be an elected representative.
Irmohizam had claimed possible conflict of interests in the RM1.18 billion settlement reached between Ijok settlers and two private developers in 2015.
The deal was facilitated by the Selangor government helmed by Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali.
The two companies – LBCN Development Sdn Bhd and Mujur Zaman Sdn Bhd – were involved in a tussle over the 2,200-acre land with the previous Selangor administration under then menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim.
On March 14, a Malay daily reported that a group of 113 unhappy Ijok settlers filed an injunction against Azmin and five others, demanding higher compensation, based on the current value of their land.
Two weeks later, another group of Ijok settlers said that their long-standing issues had been resolved by Azmin.
Barisan Nasional (BN) had taken issue with the RM1.18 billion settlement, and questioned why the compensation was just a fraction of the land sale value, saying the matter was settled without due legal process in the Federal Court. - FMT
