Former finance minister Daim Zainuddin today said that Pakatan Harapan will capture Putrajaya in the 14th general election based on “sentiments on the ground”.

“Wherever I go, people ask me who will win GE14.

“I tell them Harapan will win, God willing,” he told a press conference in Langkawi today.

According to Daim, who was recently sacked from Umno, the rakyat are now inclined to experience “change”.

“There is a mood for change, the rakyat wants change, but (we) have to be careful, because the (caretaker) government will do anything to win.”

Last Thursday, Daim predicted BN may lose big in Kedah and Perak, and PAS might lose Kelantan, tomorrow.

For the record, Daim correctly predicted that BN would capture Kedah in the 13th general election in 2013.

Prior to that, the state was ruled by PAS, which was then a part of the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

BN fielded Mukhriz Mahathir as the menteri besar candidate then, and the strategy worked.

Mukhriz is now the deputy president of Bersatu, which is working towards capturing Kedah from BN.

‘I have advised Najib’

Meanwhile, Daim said that before he joined Harapan in its campaign trail to topple BN, he had advised caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak (photo) about running the country.

“Najib and I are old friends. There are certain ways to advice, but I cannot reveal all,” he said, without elaborating further.

Daim also said that he does not have to join Bersatu, to fight for the country’s future.

“I’m not joining Bersatu, I came back to fight for the rakyat and ensure there is no corruption.

“I will continue to be with the rakyat, even after the election is over,” said Daim, adding that his advanced age is no excuse for him to not contribute to the country.

“What matters is I have a brain. Better to have an old horse with a brain than a brainless young horse,” he said, without elaborating further.

Daim then urged Malaysians to vote tomorrow with the future of the country in mind.

“We are talking about the country’s future and generations to come.

“If you still have time to tell your family, especially the 40 percent young voters, tell them to make the most of their votes to save the country and to ensure a better future.

“The coming generation will blame us if we let this opportunity slip, while we can,” he said. – MKINI

Daim predicts victory for Pakatan

LANGKAWI: Former minister Tun Daim Zainuddin predicts Pakatan Harapan (PH) will make inroads towards Putrajaya and subsequently form the next federal government.

He said what is important now is for the people to come out in full force and cast their votes on polling day.

“If the percentage of people coming out to vote is high, the chances of PH winning with a big majority will increase.

When asked how confident he is that PH will win Putrajaya and form the next federal government, he said people will know when the result is out tomorrow.

“We will know tomorrow, God willing,” he said.

In 2008, Daim predicted that Kedah and several states in Peninsular Malaysia will fall to the opposition, and it came true with the ruling coalition failing the state.

He predicted again that BN will recapture Kedah in the 2013 general election which again proved true.

Daim also pointed out that he doesn’t have to join PPBM, as the objective of his political comeback is to fight for the people and justice.

“If after this PH forms the next government and there is no justice in their governance, I will fight them with the rakyat,” he said. – THE SUN DAILY
