Yoursay: Dedak galore; even caretaker health minister gives agro funds

YOURSAY | ‘S Subramaniam's act is not only unlawful, but a criminal act of bribery.’
Mosquitobrain: Caretaker health minister S Subramaniam, why are the replanting funds for the Felda area not given months ago, but on the eve of the general election?
Aren’t you trying to buy the Felda settlers' votes? Subra, the Felda settlers, are smarter than you, they will take the RM4,000, but vote Pakatan Harapan.
Varuna: It's good that the Felda settlers are finally receiving money that was due to them and promised to them some four years ago.
It is a little telling of this minister’s lack of capacity and his opportunistic approach under the circumstances of this current election campaign, since he has been their MP since the last election.
Additionally, he admits that ‘he’ specifically asked the caretaker prime minister for his approval (on this very eve of the election) and purportedly obtained the release of the funds. So, kudos to him and the PM.
While he and many others may consider that this is how ‘gifts’ can be legitimately and fairly granted to voters before elections, there are those who would argue that this politician has a condescending attitude towards his potential voters.
Nain: He doesn't even understand what a 'caretaker' health minister means. On top of that, Felda's affairs don't fall under his ministry's jurisdiction anyway.
It just means the 'gift' before polling day is pure vote buying.
Chipmunk: Desperate moments call for desperate actions. Where is the MACC and Election Commission (EC) on this direct form of bribery?
The settlers have suffered for four years and did not get a helping hand from BN, but just before the election, Subra gets Najib's approval.
Ultimately: Why is a 'caretaker' health minister disbursing agricultural funds? Why is an election candidate disbursing government funds? Why is the payment made “today up to polling day” only?
How can a caretaker prime minister approve this allocation? Since it is owing to the Felda settlers since four years ago, why hadn't the government given it earlier?
Why is the EC and MACC not asking such simple questions?
Malaysian-United: Dishing out money again. Yes, how can a caretaker PM approve this two days before polling day? Isn't Parliament already dissolved? Isn't this considered a clear-cut case of vote buying and an electoral offence?
The Umno-BN government's violation of countless electoral rules makes a mockery of the entire electoral process.
The EC's inaction against these multiple violations speaks volumes of its allegiance to Umno-BN.
Najib and the EC should know that every single violation is well documented and will be held against them regardless of the outcome of the elections.
Mr Z: Another RM1 million budget out of nowhere, and open vote buying for the rural people. Indeed, shouldn't the EC do something? The RM1 million budget seriously should go to healthcare.
Rupert16: A caretaker government has no authority or rights to dispense grants or payments to anyone. This is not only not lawful, but a criminal act of bribery.
Vgeorgemy: Subramaniam is incompetent in running public healthcare, which is at its lowest quality in years since independence. Subra must be punished for this dereliction of cabinet duties by defeating him in his constituency.
Demi Rakyat: After four years of ignoring these Felda settlers by not paying them, suddenly ‘semua boleh’ (everything's possible)?
This kind of "government" and these kinds of people, we really don't need or want as our leaders. They have totally no genuine concern for the rakyat.
Vijay47: Subramaniam, I will not add to the many comments here on the illegality of your offering gifts and grants to your constituents on the eve of the elections, acts that will miss the otherwise vigilant eye of the EC.
But I will state that if you appear at the door of your master in Pekan and Putrajaya, in tattered clothes and begging bowl in hand, singing "Tudung Periuk" or "Amma, Passikithey" (Mother, I'm Starving), you, of course, will continue to be treated as the beggar, forgotten for five years and thrown crumbs as elections day approaches.
Even with the blatant corruption being practised by Umno, your lords saw it fit to give you a miserable RM1 million to be shared among 265 pitiful Felda settlers, not that it augurs better success for you on May 9.
Shanmugam VK Subrayan: Wow, RM4,000 for Felda settlers, that is some 8,000 blue notes. But the Indians only get a blueprint from the saviour of the Indian community. Kudos to MIC.
Clever Voter: Umno, MCA and MIC all behave the same. They see no difference in treating taxpayers' money as their own.
It is a consequence of years of having the same ruling party, which sees such behaviour being institutionalised. Even if individuals are defeated, the deep culture is well embedded.
Money has always been their trump card, and the amazing thing is that it works.
P Dev Anand Pillai: Donkeys will be donkeys, nothing can change that. They'll take the money, but the giver will get it back by raising the taxes of necessities, that's all.
It is simple. They keep the Malays ignorant and needy, keep the Chinese threatened and keep the Indians begging.
That is the formula for continued political dominance in our beloved but divided nation called Malaysia. _Mkini
