'Datuk' from GLC remanded over RM300m project

The Magistrate’s Court in Putrajaya today issued an order to remand a chief executive officer of a government-linked company until Sunday to assist the MACC in their investigation.

The 59-year-old CEO, who is also a "Datuk", was picked up by the MACC yesterday at his office to facilitate a probe into alleged corruption in the awarding of a development project in Putrajaya via tender worth RM300 million.
Magistrate Shah Wahid Abdul Halim granted the remand order.
It was reported that the MACC had raided three premises in the Klang Valley to obtain documents related to the case, where the man had allegedly abused his power to manipulate the project which was under development.
"The project was awarded to a contractor through a tender process, but due to several issues which were intentionally raised, the contractor failed to execute the project.
"It was later given to another contractor which is believed to have links to the man, and this whole show has been planned from the get-go,' said the source.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, Shah Wahid remanded two men aged 37 and 38 until Monday to assist investigations after they were picked up receiving RM50,000 cash at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
The duo claimed to know senior officers in the MACC and had sought bribes from a political party division chief from a northern state.
Both are believed to be unemployed. - Mkini
