Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad has reiterated his pledge to ensure transparency in the medicine supply chain.
"I reiterate my past statement, 'we will ensure the supply chain process is effective, responsible, and transparent'," Dzulkefly said in a tweet today.
He added that the Pakatan Harapan government was committed to fixing weaknesses and tackling wastage of public funds, leakages, and misconduct.
He was responding to Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil who called for an end to monopoly on the supply of medicines by companies owned by politicians from the former BN government.
This followed a report in Free Malaysia Today alleging that 20 companies with links to prominent politicians, including a former minister, had control of the medicine supply chain by acting as "tendering agents" and securing contracts worth RM3.7 billion between 2013 and 2016.
International pharmaceutical companies allegedly deal only with the tendering agents to ensure a virtual monopoly on the supply of medicine.
A 12-page document containing the allegations was reported to have been submitted to the Health Ministry yesterday. -Mkini
