Police still estimating value of items seized from Pavilion Residences

Federal commercial crimes director Amar Singh said his department is still estimating the value of the items seized from three units at the upmarket Pavilion Residences in Kuala Lumpur on May 18.
“We are still in the process (of estimating the value). The China Press statement on this is premature,” he told Malaysiakini.
China Press reported that police have completed their estimation with regard to the items, which included 433 branded watches, whose total value is RM80 million, with one particular watch valued at RM3.5 million.
The report said the police have also completed the valuation of the “gold” seized. It claimed that police have yet to determine the value of the jewellery taken from the units.
On May 25, Amar told a press conference that the total amount of cash seized was RM114 million.
He said it took 22 bank officers three days to count the cash in 26 different currencies which were in 35 of the 72 bags seized.
The remaining 37 bags contained watches and jewellery. Also seized were 284 boxes of designer handbags.
In a statement this afternoon, Amar urged the media and police to be patient.
He said the police would call for a press conference to reveal the details once the valuation is completed.
Following the raid, Umno has sought the return of the cash confiscated claiming that it belonged to the party and was in the process of being transferred to the new leadership following former premier Najib Abdul Razak's resignation as Umno president. -Mkini
