Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has pardoned lawyer Kamal Hisham Jaafar who had been engaged in a long-standing dispute with the royal family.
Kamal, who acted for Sultan Ibrahim's late father for 17 years, had a falling out with the royal family after the late ruler's passing in 2010.
The lawyer was on the run, claiming that a member of the royal family issued death threats against him.
In 2015, Kamal had been charged with 17 counts of criminal breach of trust under the Companies Act 1965 after returning to Malaysia.
In a statement today, Johor Council of Royal Court president Abdul Rahim Ramli said that Sultan Ibrahim agreed to pardon Kamal after receiving an apology.
"His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar and sovereign ruler of the state and territory and Johor Darul Ta'zim after receiving a request for apologies from Kamal Hisham Jaafar for all his actions, documents, designs and behaviour whether directly or otherwise towards his majesty...
"...with the advice and concurrence of the Council of the Royal Court and in consideration of the holy month of Ramadhan, is pleased and has graciously and with utmost sincerity accepted the request and magnanimously and unconditionally pardoned Kamal Hisham Jaafar," the statement read.
Abdul Rahim added that the ruler wishes Kamal all the best in his future endeavours. -Mkini
