Outgoing Puteri Umno chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin wants the party's women's youth wing to make room for outsiders in the coming party elections.
She said she hoped posts in the wing will not be filled only by divisional leaders and others who already have positions in the party.
"Make room for candidates who are qualified, who have been consistent and who want to contribute to the party.
"This combination of backgrounds and experiences will help bring about change," Mas Ermieyati told Malaysiakini.
She said the Puteri wing, through initiatives such as the National Women Undergraduates Secretariat (Swinas) and Adinda, had managed to attract many young capable women to join the party.
She added that NGO leaders who were also in Puteri Umno should also be considered for leadership roles in the party.
Mas Ermieyati, who is also Masjid Tanah MP, will not be defending her post as Puteri chief.
She is, however, mulling calls for her to contest a vice-president's post.
Puteri Umno, together with the Wanita and Youth wings, will have their elections on June 23. -Mkini
