PPBM president says the federal government will give aid to those who wish to use vacant land to grow vegetables and fruits.
ALOR SETAR: The Pakatan Harapan federal government is very focused on easing the burden of the people, stemming from the high cost of living, PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin said today.
He said Putrajaya was seeking ways to ease the people’s burden, such as finding ways to increase their income.
An income of RM1,000-RM2,000 might no longer be enough to cope with high prices and other costs, such as school expenses.
“Among the important things we want to do is to produce more food. In Kedah, many plots of land are not fully utilised, people can use those plots of land to grow their own crops, vegetables and fruits.
“That way, you don’t have to spend so much at the market.”
He said the federal government would provide aid for those who wished to grow their own food.
Muhyiddin said to give more aid to the people, the government had cancelled as many projects as possible, which do not benefit the people but which were only a burden on the national debt.
“This includes the high-speed rail from KL to Singapore, which costs billions, but merely reduces travelling time by one hour.
“The prime minister decided to scrap the project as it would not be worth it. And then, there is the East Coast Rail Link, which will cost as much as RM66 billion.
“Now, everything runs into billions. If our revenue is in the billions, it is okay.
“But our debt is so huge,” he said in his speech during a buka puasa event at the Alor Mengkudu mosque here this evening, attended by PPBM deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir, who is also Kedah menteri besar.
More than 1,700 people received Aidilfitri aid at the event.
Muhyiddin said the federal government needed to manage the country the right way, especially in aiding Malaysians who are poor.
“This is to ensure no one lives a hard life so much so that their children can’t go to school and they do not have enough to eat.
“This is what we should prioritise, to help ease the burden of the high cost of living. Nothing else.
“There may be other areas we need to look into, but it is not as crucial as ensuring our rakyat live a more comfortable life.” -FMT
