The Tabung Harapan Malaysia has collected more than RM50 million in its first 10 days of being launched as a platform for Malaysians who wished to donate money to the government.
According to the Finance Ministry, the total amount collected as of 3pm today was RM52,216,682.08.
The fund had seen an increase of some RM3 million in the past 24 hours.
The first 24 hours since the fund's launch on May 30 saw a collection of an initial RM7 million.
Since then, many individual Malaysians, as well as various corporations, had come forward with their contributions.
On Wednesday, the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) pledged to donate RM1 to the Tabung Harapan Malaysia for every visitor to the Matta Fair.
Last Sunday, two companies and a businessperson in Penang handed over a total of RM3 million to Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng to bring the total amount collected for the fund to RM30 million.
Others, meanwhile, took to selling nasi lemak and washing cars to raise money for the fund.
The Tabung Harapan was launched by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who called it a means to address the country's challenging financial situation. -Mkini
