UK meet: MCA asks if Anwar incoming foreign minister, or DPM's spouse?

Since Pakatan Harapan de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim does not have an official government position, MCA fired a sarcastic salvo over his recent meeting with UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson in London.
“Was Anwar representing the government as the incoming foreign minister or spouse to the deputy prime minister?” asked party deputy secretary-general Wee Jeck Seng.
Anwar's wife and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is the current deputy prime minister.
In view of this, the MCA leader called on Putrajaya to assign a clear role for Anwar such as appointing him special envoy.
Wee said this would allow the former opposition leader to handle government duties such as foreign affairs in a more effective manner.
“Since Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has promised to let Anwar take over the premiership in two years, the government should arrange an official title for Anwar during this period.
“This is to ensure that the government's work is done according to the procedure and is lawful,” he added in a statement this afternoon.
Following the meeting, Anwar said the UK is committed to assisting the Malaysian government in the investigations into 1MDB and has agreed to repatriate assets linked to the fund seized there.
Since his release from prison last month, Anwar said he would spend his time delivering lectures abroad.
Last week, Anwar said his re-entry into Parliament would only be discussed in two months' time.
However, the PKR leader denied that he would contest in the Pandan seat, which is held by his wife. - Mkini
