1MDB probe: PAC may incorporate DOJ's lawsuits as reference

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will study 1MDB-linked lawsuits by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) before deciding its terms of reference for the reopened probe into the state-owned fund.
PAC chairperson Ronald Kiandee said there is a possibility of including DOJ's cases as part of the committee's investigations.
"We are not ruling that out. That's why we have to sit down and discuss what is the best (in terms of) reference. We will decide," he told Malaysiakini.
The terms of reference are needed in order to begin proceedings into the 1MDB case.
Ronald said PAC will also need the input from the National Audit Department as well as former committee members before drafting the scope of investigations. Currently, 11 out of 14 PAC members are new to the committee.
PAC was briefed on Aug 30 and again today by the audit department, which investigated 1MDB in 2015 after being instructed to do so by the then prime minister Najib Razak.
The 1MDB audit report was classified in January 2016 until the Pakatan Harapan won in general election in May.
On Aug 16, the Dewan Rakyat unanimously passed a motion to order the PAC to reopen its investigation into the 1MDB scandal.
PAC will first investigate the missing RM18 billion in goods and services (GST) refunds, said Ronald.
Six witnesses, including former second finance minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah, Johari Abdul Ghani, former treasurer-general Irwan Serigar Abdullah and Customs director-general T Subromaniam will be called to provide statements into the probe of the missing GST refunds, according to Ronald.
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng had claimed the previous administration had 'robbed'from the GST refunds. - Mkini
