The election court has thrown out the election petition for the Hutan Melintangstate seat in Perak brought by G Manivannan, PKR’s candidate in the 14th general election.
This came after Johor Bahru High Court judge Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah allowed the preliminary objection by BN Hutan Melintang state assemblyperson Khairuddin Tarmizi against the election petition.
In his ruling, Collin noted there was a defect in the election petition.
He said Manivannan had no locus standi in the hearing as his petition failed to comply with Section 32 and Section 34 of the Election Offences Act 1954.
"The petition ought to be struck out," ruled the judge.
Manivannan was ordered to pay RM10,000 in cost.
The former Kapar parliamentarian, who lost the Hutan Melintang state seat to Khairuddin by 741 votes in GE14, had filed the petition on June 18. - Mkini
