UMNO AGM | The delegates at the Umno annual general assembly went rapturous at the sight of embattled former party president Najib Abdul Razak making his appearance at the Putra World Trade Centre today.
Chants of "Hidup Najib" (Long live Najib) as he walked into the Merdeka Hall of PWTC.
Najib arrived clad in the customary red baju melayu at 8pm to witness the opening ceremony of the assembly.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is slated to deliver his keynote address to the members of the Wanita, Puteri, and Youth wings during the ceremony.
Speaking to journalists, Najib said he expected Zahid to speak the truth to party delegates.
"I expect it will be a speech by the president to relay the truth and I expect to see that we recover from the loss.
"I expect a new sense of determination to move forward to make Umno what it used to be," he said.
Najib received a standing ovation when his name was read out by speaker Badruddin Amiruldin.
PAS leaders at the AGM, led by deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, received a similarly warm response from the Umno delegates.
MIC president SA Vigneswaran also made an appearance, although outgoing MCA president Liow Tiong Lai – who threatened to boot Umno from BN if it formed a pact with PAS – was not seen at the event.
