33 1Malaysia Clinics to be closed down, says Dzulfekly

A total of 33 1Malaysia Clinics will be closed down in stages, while the remaining 313 will be revamped and rebranded as Community Clinics, according to Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
"The 33 clinics will be closed in stages, and will not affect the delivery of healthcare services to the people in surrounding areas, because (they can still access) nearby hospitals and clinics," he said at a press conference after launching a National Dental Healthcare Week event at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
Each of the Community Clinics, Dzulkefly said, will be allocated with a medical officer and several nurses as well as a pharmacist to dispense medicine.
He added that the matter would be brought up and discussed in cabinet.
1Malaysia Clinics were introduced by former Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in 2010 to provide affordable healthcare, with minor ailments treated for as low as RM1.
New consultation fees to tabled to Cabinet
On the proposed increase in the rate of consultation fees in private hospitals and clinics, Dr Dzulkefli was quoted by Bernama as saying the revision would be tabled to the Cabinet before any decision is made.
Prior to this, health ministry deputy director-general Dr Azman Abu Bakar said the paper on the proposed revision of consultation fee charges, which was submitted to Dzulkefly, recommended an increase of between RM35 and RM125 from RM10 and RM35.
The increase was agreed to at a town hall session on "Stakeholders Consultation on the Proposed Revision of General Practitioners' Charges", held at the Health Ministry in Putrajaya, recently.
Meanwhile, he said the National Health Morbidity Survey 2017 had revealed an alarming finding that nine of 10 adult Malaysians suffered from gum disease. - Mkini
