PARLIAMENT | Putrajaya will only pay bonuses, ex-gratia payments and incentives to the civil service when there is a surplus in the government's coffers, Deputy Finance Minister Amiruddin Hamzah said today.
"The bonuses, incentives and ex-gratia payments can only be considered after taking into consideration the ability and financial status of the country.
"We will give (these payments) when there is a surplus.
"We cannot (implement) a policy and concept where we give ex-gratia and bonus payments when we are in debt," he said during the winding up of the royal decree in the Dewan Negara.
The government will resume paying bonuses when the financial situation allows for it, he added.
