Nothing special about 'number one dress', Takiyuddin tells Patriot

PAS MUKTAMAR | PAS has defended its volunteer corps Jabatan Amal's move to don ceremonial uniforms similar to those worn by the armed forces yesterday.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said there was nothing special about the "number one dress" and dismissed veterans group Patriot - which objected to the party's use of the uniform - as having run out of issues.
"Generally the number one dress is normal, it's just normal. Why doesn't Patriot protest the sale of the army and police uniforms at regular shops, why not ask the government to control such things?
"Behind the PAS headquarters, you can get all sorts of ranks.
"I think Patriot has run out of issues. Before this they fought with others. There's no legal prohibition against the number one dress, every association has its own uniform," Takiyuddin said at a press conference in Terengganu today.
He added that one of the Jabatan Amal members who escorted PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang during the guard of honour inspection yesterday was an army veteran who wore his own medals.
Earlier today, Patriot president Mohamed Arshad Raji said it was an offence for civilians to don military garb.
"Section 140 of the Penal Code (Act 574) states that it is an offence for anyone not in the military service to wear any garb or carry any token resembling garb used by the military," he said.
Meanwhile, Malay Mail reported Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu as saying that his ministry will look into the matter of PAS' number one uniforms.
“We will discuss this at the ministerial level to see what action can be taken next. We will see whether they are allowed to wear the number one dress or not,” Mohamad was quoted as saying.
Mohamad is a former PAS deputy president and the current president of PAS splinter party Amanah. - Mkini
