MELAKA: Chaos reigned at a PKR election balloting process for the state's division committee and women's wing at Ayer Keroh when Tangga Batu MP Prof Dr Rusnah Aluai was attacked by her own party member.
In the incident on Tuesday night (Sept 4) at Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC), Dr Rusnah was sitting at the lobby with her supporters when a Melaka Historic City (MBMB) councillor confronted her and began uttering abusive words.
The councillor wasn't happy that Dr Rusnah had offered herself as a candidate to vie for one of the top posts in the state.
Her husband, Prof Umair Mohammad Aslam, who came to her defence, was also physically assaulted by the councillor.
.Two police reports were lodged at Ayer Keroh police station following the incident.
Eye-witnesses said the councillor acted very aggressively towards Dr Rusnah and continued to intimidate her, despite supporters asking the councillor not to create a scene in a public area.
The incident surfaced shortly after Klebang assemblyman Gue Teck was accused attacked on social media when he offered himself as a candidate for the party's election.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Afzanizar Ahmad confirmed receiving the report about the assault and said the matter is being investigated under Section 323 and Section 506 of the Penal Code.- Star
